Episode 030: Anchor Gratitude to a Feeling

  • Hey there, friends! Welcome back to another episode of Live Your Truth Love Your Life. Today, I’m thinking about gratitude. It’s November, and if you’re in the US, Thanksgiving is coming up, a time where we’re intentional about practicing gratitude.

When I ask, 'What are you grateful for?' I'm sure a flood of answers come to mind. But today, we’re going one step further. How do those things, moments, or people you're grateful for make you feel?

The beauty of gratitude is that it’s more than just a list of 'good things' in our lives. It’s an emotional anchor; it roots us in feelings of joy, contentment, or even peace.

Let’s start with an exercise. I want you to take a deep breath. Close your eyes if you can, and think of one thing you're truly grateful for. Maybe it’s your family, a moment of pure joy, a shared experience with someone you love, or perhaps a moment of unexpected kindness.

Got it? Now, dig deeper. Beyond that gratitude, what do you feel? Is it warmth? Relief? Joy? Peace? Love? Take a moment and let yourself feel that emotion in its entirety as you think about what you’re grateful for.

This is the essence of a transformative gratitude practice. Not just recognizing what we're grateful for, but immersing ourselves in the emotions they elicit. This helps us not only acknowledge all of the wonderful things in our lives but to truly embody the feelings attached to them.

When you associate gratitude with feeling, it becomes a powerful tool for self-awareness and emotional well-being. In our toughest times, it can create hope, reminding us of the positive emotions we've experienced and can experience again.

I challenge you, as you move forward in your gratitude practice, to not just list the things you're thankful for but to anchor each item to a feeling. Take a moment each day this month to reflect on it, to truly feel it. And watch as the power of gratitude unfolds in your life.

This month, I’m doing the @PositivelyPresent 30 Day Gratitude Challenge. I’ll be posting every day to my personal IG - @MissAdrienne_C and the story will be shared on the podcast page @LiveYourTruthLoveYourLife. Feel free to join me, and tag me in your posts! Before we wrap up today's episode, I’d love to hear from you. Share what you're grateful for and, more importantly, how it makes you feel. Your stories inspire not only me but our entire community.

Thank you for tuning in. Until next time, live your truth, love your life.

  • Today, focus on gratitude with a twist. Instead of just listing what you're grateful for, take each item and delve into the feelings they evoke.

    • Identify Something You're Grateful For: Start with one thing you are truly grateful for today. It could be as simple as a sunny morning, a good book, or a meaningful conversation with a friend.

    • Explore the Emotion: Describe in detail the feeling this gratitude brings. Is it a sense of peace, happiness, relief, or maybe a feeling of being loved or supported? Try to really name and sit with this emotion.

    • Reflect on the Impact: How does this feeling impact your day or your outlook on life? Does it bring a sense of calm, motivate you, or remind you of the good in your world?

    • Visualize the Moment: If this gratitude is linked to a specific event or moment, close your eyes and visualize it. What do you see, hear, or smell? How does your body feel in this moment of gratitude?

    • Anchor the Feeling: Think about how you can anchor this feeling into your day. Can you create a small ritual or reminder that brings you back to this emotion, helping you to tap into this sense of gratitude whenever you need it?

Remember, the power of this exercise lies in not just recognizing what you are thankful for, but in deeply connecting with the emotions that your gratitude brings. Let this practice be a bridge to a more mindful and emotionally rich life.

Take your time with these questions. Sit with them, revisit them, and most importantly, act on them. It’s time to turn your insight into action.

There are no limits to this exercise - let your mind roam free, and be as detailed and creative as you can. The more vivid your visualization, the more tangible your dream will feel.

This is your time, your moment, your opportunity to make magic. Believe in your own potential, and let's see where this journey can take us. Happy journaling!
