Episode 020: Choose Your Thoughts, Change Your Life
-
Hey there, friends! Welcome back to another episode of Live Your Truth Love Your Life. I’m Adrienne, and I appreciate you joining me. Today, we’re having a quick chat about something super special: the power of choice in mindset renewal.
I'm sure you've heard the term "mindset" thrown around a lot. But have you ever taken a moment to consider it's a choice?
We're not just products of our environment, experiences, or DNA. We have the ability, each day, to decide how we perceive our world, how we react to challenges, and how we craft our stories. That's right - every morning when we wake up, we can decide to renew our mindset.
Many of you have shared that you’re feeling stuck, like you're in a rut or continuously running but not really getting anywhere. Sound familiar? That feeling is often more about mindset than circumstance. And it's where the power of choice comes in.
I loved snowglobes as a child. LOVED them. Anytime I went anywhere or someone in my family traveled, that was my souvenir of choice. I bring this up because I want you to Imagine for a moment that you're holding a snow globe. Every time something in life shakes you up, the snow whirls around, making it hard to see clearly. But what if you could find the stillness when life shakes you? What if, instead, you chose to look at the snowflakes as they fall, understanding that they'll soon settle and your vision will clear?
Shifting your mindset doesn't mean ignoring your feelings or pretending that everything is perfect. Instead, it's about understanding that every challenge, every emotion, is fleeting. And that you have the power to choose how you navigate through them.
When you’re having a 10 out of 10 day, many of us do what Brene Brown calls foreboding joy. It’s waiting for the shoe to drop. Instead of fully being in that joy of a 10 out of 10 joyful day, we worry about what’s looming, thinking this can’t be this good forever. But when we’re having a 1 out of 10 day, for many of us, it’s hard to think that better days are coming. On the other side of this awful day, season, experience, there will be incredible things. It’s easy to picture the bad, but it’s hard to picture the good. That’s a choice though, to allow yourself to focus your thoughts in that way.
If you've been feeling overwhelmed or consumed by negativity, let's start small. Consider one aspect of your life where you can make a deliberate shift. Maybe it's turning "I have to" into "I get to". Instead of "I have to work today", think "I get to work today and make a difference".
The words we use, both out loud and in our heads, shape our reality. They can bind us, or they can free us.
Remember, the circumstances of our lives, they’re neutral. They’re the things that happen outside of our control. Circumstances only become good or bad based on the thoughts we have about them. Those thoughts dictate how you feel or your emotions, and your emotions drive your actions. You don’t like what you’re doing or the results you’re getting, you need to shift your thoughts about your circumstances.
I want to challenge each of you this week. Identify one area, just one, where you can renew your mindset. When you face a challenge in that area, stop and remind yourself of the choice you have in how to perceive it.
Maybe you're facing financial worries, health concerns, or relationship troubles. In every case, there's an opportunity to choose hope, action, and positivity over despair.
As we wrap up, I want to leave you with this thought: Renewing your mindset is like flexing a muscle. It might feel strange or even uncomfortable at first, but with time and practice, it becomes second nature. Being intentional about your thoughts takes practice. It takes awareness.
And remember, you're not alone on this journey. Our community is here, cheering you on every step of the way. Reach out, share your stories, and let's grow together.
