Think Trip To Reset

So you’re wondering, what is a “Think Trip” anyways?  Picture this, you take at least 24 full hours for yourself.  24 hours.  To yourself.  Put yourself in a new setting.  The only expectation is to sit with yourself and reset.

Now, you’re probably wondering, how do I reset? Unplug from the world.  Technology isn’t your friend for this 24 hours.  You can go without constant updates for 24 hours, and I will venture a guess and say you will better for it. Then, just do things you enjoy.  Really.  Do things YOU enjoy.

For me, I chose a quiet, boutique resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.  I got a room with a beautiful balcony and mountain views.

I arrived, put my bags down, got a cold bottle of water, and sat on the balcony.  I took in my surroundings - the towering hill in front of me and the mountains in the distance.  I took in the sounds - soft music playing in the courtyard, and distant laughter at the pool. I closed my eyes, and seized the opportunity to meditate.  I focused on my breathing.  I felt the warm sun on my skin, felt the ever-so-slight breeze.  And I just sat.  For an hour.  Rather than wonder how much time was passing, I sank into the moment and the time passed without a second thought.

I worked out - a stack of Peloton classes with my favorite instructors that included a warm up ride, 45 minute ride, cool down ride, and stretch.  Movement is medicine for me.  It clears my mind and is a jumpstart to feeling energized and joyful.

I decided to read by the pool.  I finished one book and started another.

As it was getting to be late evening, I meandered back to my room.  I took a refreshing shower, and I laid down for 45 minutes to recharge.  At first, I opened my book, and then, I thought against it, and I just laid there.

Dinner for one at a delicious Italian restaurant.

Dessert in a charming courtyard under the stars.  People danced to live music, and I just sat, taking it all in.

Back to my room.  I journaled - I settled into my gratitude and goals practice.  I write 5 things I’m grateful for from that day, and I write down the 10 goals I am working towards to become the best version of myself.

That was enough for the day.  I slept like a rock and didn’t set an alarm.

I woke up, had a smoothie for breakfast, and sat back on my balcony.  I found myself back in meditation, which here, came easily.

When I opened my eyes, I was feeling eager to get words on paper.  I wrote several articles to be published at a later date.  I journaled some more - free-flow writing of anything and everything that comes to mind.

Then, I painted while listening to classical music - a practice that makes me feel creative, free, and connected to myself.

When it was time to pack up, I didn’t want to go, but I knew this 24 hours gave me everything I needed and more.  I felt calm, yet energized.  Creativity pulsing.  Clarity. Give yourself that gift. Carve out 24 non-negotiable hours in a different setting. See what happens.
