Episode 038: What's Blocking Your True Self?

  • Welcome back to the 'Live Your Truth Love Your Life' podcast. I'm Adrienne, and today, I want to invite you to contemplate an impactful question that I’ve been pondering and using in my coaching practice. This question is a tool for self-discovery and empowerment. The question we're exploring today is, 'What is getting in the way of you being exactly who you want to be?'

In my coaching practice, I've seen this question open doors to deep introspection. It's not about the obstacles we face; it's about clarity and awareness. It's about identifying the unseen hurdles and acknowledging our power over them. We can get lost in the everyone and everything generalizations, but this question allows us to really explore our perceived obstacles.

Often, our first response to this question is, 'I don't know.' And that's okay. The beauty of self-discovery lies in patience and openness. Let's take a moment together. Take a deep breath in. Hold it at the top. Exhale. And again. Now, think about the question again. What comes up for you? Notice what that is–if you’re having thoughts around the question, a reaction within your body, or maybe a feeling arising.

It's easy to get lost in the chaos of life, to be reactive rather than proactive. Today, let's shift our perspective. Let's look beyond the emotions and circumstances clouding our vision.

A surprising realization for many is how much of what's in their way is within their control. It's not about external factors; it's about our response to them. If you can identify if there are any circumstances within your control or if it’s really only your reactions to the circumstances within your control, this provides you self-awareness that is massively beneficial in creating a plan moving forward. This is reclaiming your power and moving towards being our authentic selves.

As we wrap up, I encourage you to reflect on this question throughout the week. Remember, the journey to self-discovery is ongoing. It's about constantly asking ourselves the right questions and being brave enough to answer them honestly.

  • Reflect on the question, 'What is getting in the way of you being exactly who you want to be?'

    • Take a moment to consider the internal and external barriers you face.

    • Are they based on fear, past experiences, societal expectations, or self-imposed limitations?

    • Write down these obstacles and then explore ways you might begin to dismantle them.

    • How can you align your actions more closely with your true self and your deepest aspirations?

Take your time with these questions. Sit with them, revisit them, and most importantly, act on them. It’s time to turn your insight into action.

There are no limits to this exercise - let your mind roam free, and be as detailed and creative as you can. The more vivid your visualization, the more tangible your dream will feel.

This is your time, your moment, your opportunity to make magic. Believe in your own potential, and let's see where this journey can take us. Happy journaling!
